Playing tug with Tobias

Daniel modelling my new ace scarf

Scott had a trip to the vet for his tail. He lost part of his tail at some point before we adopted him and recently he’s been chewing on it. I don’t know what’s caused him to start chewing on it when he’s mostly left it alone previously. He’s got some medication – painkiller, anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, and I’m putting vaseline on his tail day twice a day.
Does anyone have experience with degus (or other rodents) chewing their tail? What have you tried and what’s helped?
(In the photo above Scott is in a hamster cage which is used as a travel cage for vet trips.)

In case of anxiety: apply degu

Tobias finally sat still for a photo 🙂
when a degu jumps on your shoulder to investigate you blowing your nose and then tries to run off with your tissue for bedding
thanks guys

No one can tell me otherwise that these are not one and the same…
I thought degus were liquid, but this would also explain it
