Daniel lived with me for a wonderful 4 years, 4 months and 1 day. As a rescue he didn’t have the best start in life and it took some time to get him to trust me, he’s grown into the most lovely, affectionate degu I could have ever hoped for. He loved his scritches, hammock and heat pad. He had the most amazing comedic timing, just as I’d tell him he’s the best degu I’ve ever met he’d poop on me, similar things happened several times. He was a wonderful model who could be easily bribed to stay still for photos with pea flakes.
He was diagnosed with cancer in February and has kept going well for longer than the vet ever expected – every time we saw her for months she was surprised at how well Daniel was still doing, how he was still bright, active, alert, happy, mobile. Last month things took a turn for the worse and although he improved he hasn’t fully recovered. His health has particularly declined in the last week and it’s time for him to be put to sleep. As much as it breaks my heart, this is what he needs.
My perfect boy

When you donβt want to face the world
As you all know I love Daniel and will do pretty much anything for him, but I have to draw the line somewhere.
I will not sit here holding my arm up because he’s decided he likes using my sleeve as a hammock
