Hiya, I was just wondering how time consuming you find your degus to be? We currently have two boys and we keep considering getting more, however I’m concerned that two cages to clean and two separate play times would be too much. I know integrating two different groups would be challenging, so they would stay as two pairs. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks.

Hi, I do find my degus to be quite time consuming, I never
intended to have three cages of degus, the plan was to introduce the two
sets and have them all in one big cage which wouldn’t have been as time
consuming. With feeding and three separate play times I spend about two
hours with them in the morning, I also let Daniel out again in the
evening as he unfortunately lives alone.

When I only
had one set of degus I think they got more time and attention from me
whereas now my pets take up most of my time (which isn’t a complaint)
but I don’t always spend quite as long with each of them as I would
like. I have a cage where the doors open the front fully and cages where
there is only a door to one side of the cage and if you’re going to
choose a cage I would definitely recommend the first type of cage, it
makes cleaning out so much easier.

Are you planning
on keeping the two sets in the same room? If they don’t like each other
(idk how much interest they would show in each other if you’re not
trying to introduce them) this could affect their mood and how friendly
they are towards you.
